Memorial Day was yesterday so our mission pres. instructed us to switch our p-days and to use it as a day to find those that have lost loved ones. He told us to go to the cemeteries to go tracting, and my companion sister M. jokingly says that we were going there to talk to the ghosts. Which is precisely what would have happened because in reality this is a tourist town and nobody was at the cemetery Everyone was at the beach for the holiday! So we decided to tract the houses around the cemetery We ended up singing some hymns for people on their doorsteps as a way to get into trying to share a message and then we also went to people in the ward that we knew had lost loved ones in the past year or two. We actually had some good success in a trailer park. This specific location was where the young man had been living that was killed when I got here at the beginning of my mission. One of the people that we talked to said they went to his funeral and were actually looking for a church and said that they had felt really comfortable when they had attended there for the service. After sharing a brief message to them about the plan of salvation they told us that we could come back anytime. It will be exciting to see where that goes!
Obedience!
This was the goal of this week for me and my companion. We haven't really been doing anything that is disobedient, but we wanted to make this a focus to try and do more and see more accomplished. We set this goal about half way through the week when we felt like we weren't having very much progress or success because we had been doing a lot of service or helping people move and we hadn't had hardly any lessons. We just felt like we weren't having as much success in areas as we wanted, But after really trying to focus on the goal for the last few days I could really see a difference and we learned a lot from doing it. We were able to see so many more blessing from the Lord and watch as He played a part in helping us find and talk to people.
Some of the miracles were we extended a baptismal invitation to our investigator Eldaa and she said yes. She said she has already felt the difference in her life as she has started to read the BOM. And one day when she felt like she didn't want to do anything, she recognized that satan was getting her down and making her procrastinate. She said she realized that she can't procrastinate and she needs to change cuz this is the only way to be happy.
Then we went to find a potential, William, who we had met outside a counseling center one day while tracting a street in our town.
When we went to his house his step mom came out and we started talking to her about how we had met him and shared a BOM with him. We told her how we know it would really bring a lot of peace into his life and help him find direction. She then proceeded to tell us that that was exactly what he needed! Apparently about a year ago there were two girls killed walking down bayshore rd here in Cape May and one of them was his sister and the other was his cousin. I have heard the story of the two girls the whole time being here and to be careful while walking the streets but I never thought I would meet one of the family members! The lady then proceeded to tell us that William had also lost his real mom a little over a year ago. With tears in my eyes I could hardly believe all the things that this young man was going through in his life but I reassured her that we did have a message that would help and make a difference. She then called for him to come to the door and we ended up having a good talk with him. He said he had started to look through the book, so we gave him a "question of the soul" pass along card so that he could start finding answers on his own about some of his questions and then set up a time for a return appointment Man, I know how much he needs this. I know that the Lord put us in his path for a reason.
Finally, we had a really good lesson with Mike and Lisa Fales. We taught them the law of chastity and picked a baptismal date for Mike in August and then told them to pick a date for them to get married. Mike is really progressing. He just needs to keep receiving answers for himself. Together they decided to have a competition to see who could finish reading the BOM first. I'm just excited that they are finally reading. I know it will bless them. Mike gave a perfect example of how the Lord is already guiding him. Since he is working on keeping the Word of W, he had gone all week without coffee, but then on Saturday morning he was going to go to the store to buy some creamer so he could have some. He said he looked for his car keys for over an hour and could not find them. He took it as a sign that it must not have been that important anyways.
These were only a few examples of the amazing week but the Lord has really shown me when we are more diligent and obedient that he will bless us. That is really what we need to do to always strive to stay on the right path.
Firm, Undaunted, Obedient!
